A215-162 is the brainchild of Mark B. Springer, whose prison number is the song's namesake. Mark has been incarcerated at Warren Correctional Institution, where the song was mainly recorded, since 1989.
Sedrick Franklin's opening verse was improvised on the spot. The men's choir features members of Warren Correctional Institution's UMOJA choir (UMOJA will be heavily featured on the Die Jim Crow LP). The women's choir, recorded at revolutionsound in Brooklyn NY, is made up of formerly incarcerated women.
